This is the first post on my website. I was thinking a lot about what this will serve as, and I decided that it doesn't matter. But in the meantime I think it will be a place to dump various ramblings, stories, and photos. This might change in time, but I think it's a good start.

The name The Tree That Moves is a special one to me. For one, it's been my go-to username for various websites, but it's also the name of a very peculiar tree:

The "moving tree" refers to the Socratea Exorrhiza palm, a tree native to tropical rainforests in Central and South America. It's known for its stilt roots that can cause the tree to seemingly "walk" across the forest floor over time. The tree supposedly walks from shade to sunlight by growing roots in the direction it wants to travel, then allowing the old roots to lift into the air and die.

Whether fact or fiction, it's a beautiful thing to think about, and a great allegory of my life at the moment.

The image is of a painting that I recently finished, titled Dance.

I think that's a good start for now. More to come later.
